OBESITY--A Worldwide Public Health Crisis

We are getting fatter. Plain and simple. Between Canada and America, statistics reveal that over 50% of us are overweight or obese. This obesity epidemic allowed a major threat to public health to materialize. People are now more and more prone to secondary diseases arising from obesity. These are (but not limited to) Tye II Diabetes, Cancer, Gallbladder disease, Hypertension, Stroke and more.

Some factors that influence weight gain:

-- Behavior: not enough physical activity blended with too high of a calorie intake
-- Genetics: Yes, you inherited a problem.Genes sway how your body burns calories and stores fat.
-- Environment: Opportunities for an active lifestyle often have barriers such as community, home, work, or school.

Get out there, get active, and please drop the donught! I will if you will.

Yes, I am part of the nationwide and global epidemic. Follow my journey here on NutritionHangout.com as I implement some of the strategies I write about and become more active and better friends with food. Starting June 15, 2010, I will be posting my picture a front and side view of 'before' (it's scary!!) and a history of how I gained weight and my lifelong struggle with it.
